Fun & Food Packed Weekend

What  fun packed weekend, it wasn't crazy hectic just fun filled with friends, food and some treasure hunting...
I do feel as though I didn't leave the kitchen all day Saturday, not that I'm complaining, nothing makes me happier than cooking for friends and of course eating...Saturday brunch with friends, I tried out a new pancake recipe using Kamut flour, trying to keep Michael and on our healthy 2013 eating.
That pretty much went out the window with our Arabesque inspired feast Saturday night.

::Arabesque Inspired Feast::

Courgette Fritters
1 large onion, chopped coarsely
3 tablespoons sunflower oil
500 g courgettes, chopped finely
3 eggs
3 tablespoons plain flour
2 sprigs fresh mint, chopped
2 sprigs fresh dill, chopped
200 g feta cheese, mashed with a fork
oil (for frying)

Fry the onion in 3 tablespoons of oil over a medium heat until it is soft and lightly coloured. Add the courgettes, and sauté, stirring, until they too are soft.
................
In a bowl, beat the eggs with the flour until well blended. Add black pepper (there is no need for salt because the feta cheese is very salty) and the herbs, and mix well. Fold the mashed feta into the eggs, together with the cooked onions and courgettes.
...............
Film the bottom of a preferably non-stick frying pan with oil and pour in the mixture by the half-ladle (or 2 tablespoons) to make a few fritters at a time. Turn each over once, and cook until both sides are browned a little. Drain on kitchen paper.

......
Orange & Red Onion Salad

Cucumber Salad
......
Lamb & Date Tagine
......
Rosewater Rice pudding.

Next time I would definitely omit some of the sugar and Rosewater, the pudding was just a little too sweet and the Rose water was a little too overpowering I'd like it to be an undertone.
......

Sunday we mozied around a local flea market...

Autumn

It's not quite here, the days are still hot and bright but the evenings are cooler and the daylight is slipping away from us, I know it's not far off...the allotment is looking a little dischevelled and is pretty much done with the summer crop, the pull towards sweaters & socks is becoming harder to resist...we've got the vineyard harvest 'vendemmia' upon us now then it's straight into Autumn.
But we've still got a couple of weeks yet and plenty on our to do list:
Batch of Passata
Make Grandma Smails Piccalilli
Project Dog & Bone (more on that later)
Chair & stool flea market search

Plus we have our newest purchase to make the most of and enjoy our 8ft dining room table (spending some of our wedding gift money) hence the search for new chairs & stools...

Weekend

We must remember to sometimes have a weekend of doing nothing....this was discussed first thing this morning, whilst struggling to get out of bed and get going on this dreary wet Monday morning.
The house was filled with the smell of peonies all weekend, fresh flowers on a Friday start my weekend and take away all the stress of the week. I found a new treasure this week too...my new summer lounger, this amazing striped deck chair and the best part it was an absolute steal. I'm ready for my Pimms and Cucumber sandwiches now.
After a heavy morning at the allotment Saturday we headed to ours friends in Asolo...but not missing an opportunity to pick something up for the house, we stopped off at the Used Market & found a shelving unit ideal for our kitchen without having the drill more holes in the walls...
We were awoken at 4.00 am with a earthquake...never fun.
Love my new extra space

new treasures

I found some new treasures whilst we were in Liguria, I'm particularly excited about my new stamp set, it's pretty neat it does it need a little bit of TLC, but nothing that warm soapy water won't solve. Also picked up some little vintage bowls, which you can never have too many of,  these guys are Italian from a Treviso manufacturer.

Ashley Pouch

...so much to do and just not enough time to do it in, and it seems that the things you really love doing are the first to slide. This past year has been a disaster for me when it comes to alone time to potter and make, although I've collected some amazing new vintage trims and stuff...all I need now is that precious thing, TIME.
There are some new 'Ashley Pouches' in the making...

Evergreen

This weekend we had 3 dinner invites, so rather than the usual biscuit & wine offering I popped to the garden centre then creative on our kitchen table. All those tins and containers I've been saving came in very handy.

The 2nd Sunday of the month takes us to Villa Franca flea market a 20 min drive from Verona, we can go there and back and still be home for lunch. The choice here isn't great, it's definitely better for smaller finds, glassware, buttons, the stamps featured above were beautiful but the price point too high for me. The furniture is over priced and over refurbished.  We did find some great pieces which I will post this week.
